MediaCorp Radio's Comeback Efforts

In response to the loss of position to Power 98*, MediaCorp Radio attempts to make a comeback by strengthening their base.

*Latest Nielsen Report showed that Power 98 climbed to the 2nd highest listenership among age 15-34 yr olds, beating 98.7, first time ever in radio history

In an attempt to boost listenership, MediaCorp Radio decided to employ 5 new English DJs comprising of talented musicians and acclaimed creative people. They include: Raven & Vanessa Fernandez (98.7), Wong Li-Lin (Class 95), Clarrisa Monteiro (Gold 90.5), Beatrice Chia-Richmond & Vivian Tan (Lush 99.5).

This strategy indicates strong efforts from MediaCorp Radio. Riding on the credentials of these celebrities , they hope to extend credibility to the stations and attract their existing fan base & more. In addition, these DJs could be ready spokespeople for relevant brands, according to their personalities, thus attracting more advertisers.

GV Launches Free Magazine in 07

Besides expanding 15 more cinema halls into Vivo City , come Jan 07, Golden Village will launch a monthly movie cum entertainment magazine that offers information on new movie releases, GV promotions, movie hot picks and family attractions. It is titled 'GV9' and will be distributed free to the masses. Distribution points include GV multiplexes located in various parts of Singapore, and even tertiary institutions and CBD areas.

This magazine will carry high relevance as Singapore has the world’s highest per-capital cinema attendance. Despite the hike in ticket prices, movie attendance in Singapore continues to rise over the years. GV currently dominates the pie with 43% share in terms of box-office takings.

The launch of GV magazine signifies the increasing move by media vendors to go beyond a single channel to reach out to advertisers. SPH has expanded into the OOH arena with the acquisition of 'MBO', MediaCorp also ventured into the print arena with 'Today'.
