IHT Tests Audio News Take Up

IHT releases new audio formats of news feeds on its online portal, IHT.com, free for now. Under this beta release, the audience can download audio feeds and podcast versions of the featured news. They can even customise their preferences on the type of news they would like to receive.

Many corporations had already been jumping on the podcast bandwagon, but IHT is the first news-centric portal to take this route. In a bid to meet the needs of an increasingly mobile audience, print media owners will continue to attempt to adapt to the internet space.

"Catfish" Ad Unit Launched by HWZ

The "Catfish" ad unit is recently launched by Hardwarezone.com. A "Catfish" ad is a wide rectangle banner which rests at the base of the browser webpage. It does not budge even when the user scrolls down the page. Unless the user clicks on the “close” button, it will be positioned at the base the whole time. The "Catfish" ad is only targeted to buyers who had registered and purchased something via the portal.

HWZ reports a click through rate of minimum 5% for this new ad unit. This sticky ad unit might just be the answer to more effective internet advertising. With the influx of display ad advertising earlier on, users have became accustomed to it and also have learnt to ignore them.
